For years, Jeep was a famous race car
driver. He was New York State Champion in 1956 to 1957, Fonda Race
Track champion in 1969, and a member of the Fonda Race Track Hall of
Fame, NYSCA Hall of Fame, and DIRT Track Hall of Fame in Syracuse.
Jeep raced at Arlington, Brookfield, Burden Lake, Canandaigua,
Concord, Daytona Beach/International, Fairmont, Fonda, Fort Covington,
Granville, Langhorne, Lebanon Valley, Menands, Morris, Morristown,
Middletown, Onteora, Perth, Pine Bowl, Pitman, Plattsburgh, Richfield
Springs, Rochester, Rutland, Sharon Springs, Stafford Springs,
Stateline, Syracuse, Thompson, Trenton, Utica–Rome, Victoria,
Vineland, Warrensburg, Westerlo, West Perth, White's Beach, and
Williamson.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dolores
Bordeau Herbert, who passed away on July 18, 2002.
He is survived by two brothers, James
E. Herbert of Pattersonville and Clayton T. Herbert of Scotia; two
nieces and two nephews.
He was also predeceased by a brother,
Clifford E. Herbert, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday
morning Dec. 3rd. at 8 a.m. from the Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State Street,
and at 9 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church, where the Liturgy of Christian
Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend
and may also call on Monday evening Dec 2nd. from 6 to 8 p.m. at Light's
Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer
